The Painful Loss Caused By 13 Years of Separation

Abdulahi shared the sad story of his family’s struggles. In 2011, his visa was approved. Abdulahi’s family felt abandoned, but it wasn’t his fault.

Abdulahi painfully recalls:

“Wow. Let me tell you, I had four sons. If I started my life, my journey, I have four sons and my wife also. I got approved in 2011. Then my wife, my other sons, they think I was lying. The visa takes forever. Nothing, no response. You lied, you don't want to bring us there. You're lying to us. I say, no, it's not me. It's immigration.”

Despite numerous attempts and years of waiting, he faced endless roadblocks and a frustrating lack of progress. His wife and three sons thought he was lying about the delay in bringing them to the U.S. The long wait caused his wife to divorce him.

Abdulahi described how the prolonged wait led to significant personal losses:

“My wife just divorced me because of that issue. My three other sons also walked away. I only have left the youngest one, which I have right now with me.” His family thought he had abandoned them, but he explained, “It was not my fault. I had four sons. Now, I only have one now. My other three, I don’t know where they are.”

His older sons also stopped talking to him. He lost contact with his three other sons and doesn’t know where they are now.

The Courage to Keep On Going

Abdulahi was heartbroken, thinking his reunion story would never be written. He still persisted to get his youngest son to the United States, facing more endless roadblocks. He contacted lawyers and state officials. He also visited the U.S. Embassy in Uganda. However, he was told that the final decision was up to U.S. immigration authorities.

Amdulahi shared:

“When I came, I was hopeless. I was so depressed. I didn’t have any hope. I wasn't expecting I'm going to be united with my son ever.”

Father-Son Reunited After 13 Years: A Reunion Story of Joy

A Ray of Hope

The turning point in Abdulahi's journey came when he found the law firm's services through a YouTube video. While searching online, he came across a woman’s reunion story about getting a visa for her husband. He contacted her, and she gave him our phone number.

Abdulahi recollected:

“When I saw you, actually, the way how I found you, I found you on YouTube. I was searching, and then I found you, and then there was a lady that you also get a visa for her husband. I called her.”

“She gave me your phone number, and then the phone number I had on YouTube matched the same thing. I said, this is the one I want.”
